British Gas owner agrees solar panel deal

The parent company of British Gas has agreed a deal to acquire a company that specialises in solar panels.

Centrica has stated that its agreement with Solar Technologies will help the energy supplier install the renewable energy systems across the UK.

Gearoid Lane, managing director of British Gas New Energy, said the move was "an important step" for the company as it expands the range of energy efficient technology available to both its residential and business customers.

He added: "These technologies will become increasingly important as the UK implements policies to meet its stretching renewable energy and carbon emissions targets.

"And with British Gas's energy experts supporting millions of Britain's homes and business, we are uniquely positioned to deliver."

Details of the deal have come after British Gas announced plans to invest £40 million in the recruitment and training of apprentice gas engineers.

The power company hopes that its efforts will help to tackle skills shortages in the sector.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18805161-ADNFCR
